https://ijebss.ph/index.php/ijebss/article/view/204

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented new challenges in governance in Indonesia, including increasing opportunities for corruption in the management of public funds. This study aims to examine the influence of internal factors, such as the weakness of the internal control system, and external factors, such as inflation, on corruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used panel data analysis with Partial Least Square (PLS) software in 32 provinces in Indonesia during the 2018-2021 period. The findings show that inflationary pressures significantly affect corruption actions, while weaknesses in the internal control system do not show a significant effect. These results indicate that the pandemic, in addition to being a health crisis, also provides opportunities for corrupt practices due to weak supervision. The implications of this study emphasize the need to improve internal control systems and holistic anti-corruption strategies, including increased transparency and accountability in the management of public funds during emergencies.
Indra Kusuma, ReskinoReskino

https://ijebss.ph/index.php/ijebss/article/view/199

Accessibility, adequacy, and environmental sustainability principles in providing a national electricity supply will become key demands in the coming years. The energy transition from fossil fuel sources to renewable energy is necessary to mitigate the impact of climate change, with projections towards the Net-Zero Emissions target by 2060 in Indonesia. The study aims to model energy transition scenarios, evaluate the optimal renewable energy mix, and determine emission reduction strategies in the electricity sector using LEAP-NEMO software. This study uses a forecasting-based simulation modeling method with a mathematical approach through LEAP software and NEMO optimization framework. Three scenarios were analyzed, namely Business As Usual (BAU), Net Zero Emissions Carbon Capture Storage (NZE CCS), and Net Zero Emissions Full Renewable Energy (NZE FRE).

The study results show that by 2060, the NZE FRE scenario can achieve a 100% renewable energy mix, compared to the BAU scenario (42.1%) and the NZE CCS scenario (70.8%). Solar, biomass, hydro, and geothermal energy are projected to be the main sources of electricity generation in the NZE FRE scenario, with solar energy as the largest contributor. The NZE FRE scenario is also proven to be the most effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 265.9 million tons of CO₂, or 70.5% of avoidable greenhouse gas emissions, compared to the BAU scenario. Although the cost of the NZE FRE scenario is higher, it can provide lower external impacts and long-term benefits in environmental sustainability.
Muhamad Iqbal Sutikno, Suhanan Suhanan, Ahmad Agus Setiawan

https://ijebss.ph/index.php/ijebss/article/view/200

Malaria remains a significant and persistent public health challenge in Indonesia and other tropical regions. This disease is caused by the Plasmodium parasites, which are transmitted to humans through the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes and subsequently infect hepatocytes in the liver. Despite the long history of antimalarial drug development, resistance by Plasmodium species has led to diminishing effectiveness of conventional treatments such as chloroquine and artemisinin. Consequently, there is renewed interest in herbal remedies, such as Andrographis paniculata (sambiloto), which may offer alternative therapeutic options. To elucidate the pharmacological potential of Andrographis paniculata leaf extract as an antimalarial agent. This study involves a comprehensive literature review of scientific reports, including practical reports, case studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, published within the past decade. The review was conducted through reputable scientific databases, including ScienceDirect, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar. The pharmacological efficacy of Andrographis paniculata leaf extracts is attributed to their high concentration of andrographolides, which have demonstrated the capability to inhibit heme polymerization in Plasmodium parasites. Both in vitro and in vivo studies have confirmed the safety and non-toxic nature of these extracts. Given the current state of genetic resistance in Plasmodium, the use of andrographolide extracts presents a promising avenue for effective malaria treatment. The concentrated andrographolide extract from Andrographis paniculata leaves exhibits significant antimalarial activity by targeting and inhibiting heme polymerization in Plasmodium. This suggests that it could serve as a viable alternative or complement to existing antimalarial therapies.
Brian Limantoro, Jovan Dewanta Nathanael, Devita Aulia Athifa, Felice Kanaya Chandra, Assyifa Aulia Zahra, Muhammad Imam Rizqi Ramadhan, Genova Alfonso, Irhentya Dwi Putri Lestari, Isma Dian Artika, Nadia Zelda Maulida Arisanti, Reinhan Djunaedi, Kenley Nathanael

https://ijebss.ph/index.php/ijebss/article/view/208

This study examines the relationship between financial distress and earnings management among non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period 2018–2022. This study uses a quantitative approach using the modified Jones model to measure discretionary accruals, with leverage, firm size, and profitability included as control variables. Data from 342 companies are analyzed to determine whether companies facing financial distress are more likely to engage in earnings management as a strategy to improve their financial performance.

The findings reveal that profitability has the strongest positive effect on earnings management, indicating that firms with higher profitability are more likely to manipulate earnings to improve financial results and meet market expectations. In contrast, leverage shows a significant negative effect, indicating that firms with higher debt levels are less likely to engage in earnings manipulation due to increased creditor monitoring and financial discipline. Meanwhile, financial distress and firm size have minimal impacts, with their coefficients showing no significant effect on discretionary accruals.

These results highlight the importance of profitability and leverage as key drivers of earnings management while suggesting that financial distress and firm size play a smaller role in this context. This study acknowledges limitations, including its focus on non-financial firms in Indonesia, the five-year observation period, and the exclusion of additional factors such as governance and macroeconomic conditions. Future research could address these limitations by expanding the data set, incorporating more variables, and exploring other emerging markets.
Ayu Sheila Soraya, Dianwicaksih Arieftiara

https://ijebss.ph/index.php/ijebss/article/view/206

The phenomenon of underpricing in Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) is still a major concern in the Indonesian capital market, especially in ensuring market efficiency and optimal investment decision-making. This study aims to analyze the influence of underwriter reputation, auditor reputation, and leverage on stock underpricing, with concentrated ownership as a moderation variable. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive and causal approach. The sample consisted of 363 companies that conducted IPOs on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2011-2021, which were selected using the purposive sampling method. Secondary data is obtained through IPO prospectus documentation and stock price information from the official portals of IDX, TICMI, and e-bursa.com. Data analysis was carried out using moderation regression, with hypothesis testing through t-test at a significance level of 5%.

The results show that the underwriter's reputation and leverage do not have a significant effect on underpricing, while the auditor's reputation has a significant negative influence. Concentrated ownership does not function as a moderating variable in the relationship between independent variables and underpricing. The implications of this study provide insights for companies, underwriters, and regulators to pay more attention to auditor quality factors in the IPO process to improve transparency and efficiency of the capital market. This research also opens up opportunities for further exploration of other factors that affect underpricing in the Indonesian capital market.
Hasna Nur Afifah, Rosidi Rosidi, Djuni Farhan
